When the Tennessee Volunteers held their pro day on March 30th, the Lions had at least one coach and one scout in attendance. Two of the Vols top prospects have generated enough interest from the Lions to merit another meeting.
Offensive tackle Darnell Wright and quarterback Hendon Hooker are each slated to make official “top-30” visits with the Lions in the next few days. It will not be the first time the Lions have met with either player, as well.
Both were at the Senior Bowl in January, though Hooker did not play as he recovers from a torn ACL suffered in December. Wright stood out in Mobile and helped himself with a good performance at the NFL Scouting Combine, where he acknowledged he’d met with “almost every team” in some capacity.
Wright is a consensus first-round pick and could be off the board by the time the Lions pick at No. 18. His dominant shutout against Alabama EDGE Will Anderson in Tennessee’s upset win really helped his stock.
Hooker’s draft projections are all over the map. He’s been projected as high as No. 5 overall but also into the third round in recent mock drafts.
