It’s Jamo time in Detroit.
The Lions have activated first-round wide receiver Jameson Williams from the non-football injury list. It means Williams, the No. 12 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft, is set to make his debut on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Williams was cleared to begin practicing prior to the Week 12 Thanksgiving matchup with the Buffalo Bills, but the practices were just walkthroughs on the shortened week. This week saw Williams taking live, full-speed reps with both the starting offense and the scout team.
There was uncertainty about when Williams would be activated. Head coach Dan Campbell indicated early in the week that it would be “a tall order” for the Alabama speedster to play. On Friday, Campbell stated he had yet to make a decision. Apparently, Friday’s practice session convinced Campbell that Williams was ready to make his NFL debut 11 months after tearing his ACL in his final collegiate game.
It is unclear how much of a workload Williams will get in his first game. The Lions WR corps is as healthy as its been all season, with both Josh Reynolds and DJ Chark not carrying any injury designations all week — the first time all season both have had a clean practice slate.
To make room on the active roster for Williams, the Lions placed DE Julian Okwara on injured reserve.
