Lionel Richie's Coronation Concert performance sparks concern over icon's 'unrecognisable' voice

Lionel Richie prompted concern from fans as he performed at the Coronation Concert on Sunday night, as fans were shocked by his 'unrecognisable' voice.

Undeniable music legend Lionel was one of the big names who took to the stage at Windsor Castle to perform for the newly crowned King Charles III, arriving on stage after the likes of Nicole Scherzinger, Olly Murs and Andrea Bocelli had already entertained.

He was introduced to the stage by Coronation concert host, Downtown Abbey actor Hugh Bonneville who, referencing the title of one of Lionel's biggest hits, said: "Say you, say me, say it together...it's Lionel Richie!"

Lionel, now 73, kicked off his two song set in front of a 20,000 strong crowd at Windsor and millions watching at home with classic track Easy, but it didn't take people long to wonder if something wasn't quite right. One took to Twitter, to write: "what is wrong with his voice?" Equally concerned, a second tweeted: "Why is Lionel Richie singing weird?

The Royal Family in the box looked to be loving Lionel's performance, with Sophie Wessex, Zara and Mike Tindall and Prince George particularly getting right into it as Lionel launched into party anthem All Night Long.

But tweets about how different Lionel was sounding continued to flood in, with another writing: "Ahhh we’ve found the Rod Stewart of the Coronation Concert!! …..step forward Mr Lionel Richie!! I’m so confused!!" Another tweeted: "Really hoping I just witnessed

@LionelRichie look-a-likey’ because he certainly didn’t “sing-a-likey!"

There were plenty of others who absolutely loved Lionels atar turn, with one Twitter user telling him to "take a bow" as another declared: "Lionel Richie nailed it."
