Lionel Richie hits back after claims he 'butchered' songs at Coronation concert

Lionel Richie has stood by his performance at the Coronation concert - after some criticism from fans about his voice during Sunday night's show.

The All Night Long singer, 73, was one of the many stars performing for the Royal Family at a special concert to celebrate King Charles' coronation.

Lionel was ever the professional as he played the grand piano on stage at Windsor Castle with a live band backing him.

While members of the royal family and the thousands of guests seemed impressed with his performance, many took to social media to claim he 'butchered' his songs.

Reflecting on his time on stage days later, Lionel posted a clip of his performance along with pictures and details from the night as he shared his pride in his participation.

Lionel captioned the clip: "All night long at Windsor Castle England."

He also shared a backstage selfie taken with his newly-married daughter Sofia Richie, her husband as well as Lionel's girlfriend Lisa Parigi.

Many viewers were confused by his 'unrecognisable' voice as he performed on Sunday evening.

20,000 people packed the grounds of Windsor Castle to celebrate the Coronation with a very special performance from Lionel and the other stars.

He took to the stage in a sparkly white suit with tails and sang his track Easy (Like Sunday Morning) as well as All Night Long, which had the crowd - including the Royals - standing up and cheering along.

However, some weren't impressed and took to Twitter to question his performance.

One viewer wrote: "What the hell has happened to Lionel Richie's voice? He sounds completely different and is terrible live! #CoronationConcert," as another added: "What happend to Lionel his voice? My ears.... #CoronationConcert."

A third shared: "Whose voice was Lionel Ritchie using ? It wasn’t his #CoronationConcert ."

Some bashed Lionel's 'awful' and even compared it to 'karaoke in the pub'.

Meanwhile, Lionel previously described performing at the concert as "a once-in-a-lifetime event" and an "honour and celebration".

"I mean, you don't get in the business and say, 'You know what? I'll be at the King's coronation.' You know, that just never comes up. It's A, a surprise. B, what an honour. And C, the fact of all the names that are out there that he could have had for this, he called my name," he said of the privilege of being asked to perform at the concert," he told People.
