Lionel Messi has already given 'difficult' verdict on teaming up with Cristiano Ronaldo amid Man United exit talk

Lionel Messi has already admitted that he would relish the opportunity to play alongside Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese ace has been linked with a number of clubs, including Messi's Paris Saint-Germain, having told United he wants to leave if a suitable bid is placed.

Ronaldo was expected to return to United training on Monday after being allowed an extra week off due to his involvement in the Nations League with Portugal. However, the 37-year-old has not returned due to 'family reasons'.

On Thursday, MEN Sport reported that he had been granted additional time off, meaning he would not be travelling with his teammates to Thailand on Friday. Whilst a number of potential suitors have been mentioned, there has not been much talk of any concrete interest.

Last summer, Messi sensationally left Barcelona to join PSG, linking up with Neymar once again and joining Kylian Mbappe in Ligue 1. But could Ronaldo be about to join them in Paris?

It would be an almost unthinkable scenario were Ronaldo and Messi to play alongside each other, with the pair having been rivals for the majority of their respective careers. Back in 2015, Messi was asked about the prospect of one day playing alongside Ronaldo.

He said: “Yes, of course. I always like to play with the best, and he is one of them.

"I think it will be difficult for us to play in the same team, but obviously I would like to. I was lucky enough to play and participate with many very good players and, obviously, I would also like to do it with him."

PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi suggested his team hadn't even considered a move for Ronaldo when he left Juventus for United in 2021. However, with the French champions accompanied by Chelsea and Bayern Munich on the list of potential suitors for the former Real Madrid star, the future remains unclear.
