NEW DELHI: The 2024 FIFPRO World 11 announcement on Monday revealed a significant presence of Real Madrid and Manchester City players, with six and four representatives respectively.
Notably, this marks the first instance since 2006 where Lionel Messi is not included in the prestigious lineup.
The attacking trio comprises Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr, marking a departure from the traditional presence of Messi, who previously held an impressive record of 17 selections.
Real Madrid and England midfielder Jude Bellingham emerged as the most popular choice, garnering 11,176 votes from fellow professionals.
The men's team featured only one player outside the Real Madrid and Manchester City contingent, with Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk securing his position.
The women's selection showcased strong English representation, featuring five players: Lucy Bronze, Mary Earps, Alex Greenwood, Lauren James, and Keira Walsh.
Lucy Bronze achieved a remarkable milestone by equalling Wendie Renard's record of seven appearances, whilst Barbra Banda made history as the first African player to be selected in the Women's World 11.
