During preparations for the upcoming Indianapolis 500, Swedish rookie Linus Lundqvist made headlines as the first driver to crash at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Lundqvist, driving for Chip Ganassi Racing, encountered trouble when he lost control of his Honda-powered car entering Turn 2. This incident occurred on Thursday, marking the first significant day of practice after rain had disrupted the schedule earlier in the week.

As Lundqvist's car spun into the wall and then careened across the track into the infield grass, the 25-year-old driver displayed visible disappointment. Following the crash, Lundqvist expressed regret over the mistake, attributing it to touching the curb in Turn 2, which caused him to lose control of the vehicle. Despite being cleared from the infield medical center, Lundqvist acknowledged the impact of his error on the team, stating, 'It's my mistake. I know exactly what I did.'

Chip Ganassi Racing, known for its strong presence in IndyCar, is fielding five cars at the Indianapolis 500, with Lundqvist being one of three rookies alongside Marcus Armstrong and Kyffin Simpson. The team will now regroup and work on addressing the aftermath of the crash as they continue their preparations for the prestigious race on May 26.
