Linkin Park fans have something to look forward to with the upcoming release of their first-ever career-spanning greatest hits album, Papercuts (Singles Collection 2000-2023), set to be available on April 12 via Warner Records.
The album will feature a previously unreleased track titled “Friendly Fire,” which was recorded during the making of the band's final album, One More Light. The song showcases the powerful vocals of the late Chester Bennington, who tragically passed away in July 2017 at the age of 41.
Lead guitarist Brad Delson expressed his admiration for “Friendly Fire,” stating that it was always a favorite from the One More Light sessions. The band initially set the song aside due to feeling that something was not quite right, but upon revisiting it for the greatest hits collection, they were struck by its emotional depth and resonance.
The accompanying video for “Friendly Fire” includes never-before-seen footage of Bennington in the studio, providing fans with a glimpse into the creative process behind the song. The band members, including Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson, Rob Bourdon, Joe Hahn, and Dave Farrell, worked together to complete the track and bring it to life for the album.
Delson expressed his excitement for listeners to experience the song, describing it as a beautiful, compelling, heartbreaking, and hopeful story that resonates deeply with him. Shinoda also shared his perspective on the importance of each song in the band's discography, emphasizing the desire for their music to connect with and inspire listeners.
Papercuts (Singles Collection 2000-2023) will be available on all streaming platforms on April 12, as well as in physical formats such as CD, cassette, and double-vinyl. The album promises to be a poignant tribute to Linkin Park's legacy and the enduring impact of Chester Bennington's voice and artistry.
