Linfield beat Bodo Glimt - how Norwegian media reacted to shock result

It's fair to say not many Norwegians expected Bodo Glimt to lose to Linfield. They were massive favourites for Tuesday night's Champions League clash in Belfast.

But Kirk Millar's stunning goal secured a famous European victory at Windsor Park. The winger dispossessed Bodo defender Marius Hoibratan before coolly lobbing Nikita Haikin.

It gives the Blues a fighting chance heading into next Wednesday's return leg in Norway. But next week's hosts will be gunning for revenge.

And they will need a big performance to get their home media back onside.

VG branded Tuesday's defeat at Windsor as a "shock loss", adding: "Bodø/Glimt controlled the entire match in Northern Ireland, and it seemed that it was only in attack that it was bad for the Bodø residents. But minutes before the end, Marius Høibråten served the home team a far too early Christmas present."

Meanwhile, Vegard Aulstad, VG's commentator covering the match, exclaimed for Millar's goal: "What are you doing, Høibråten?! No and no, this was in many ways what should not happen."

Dagb said: "Bodø/Glimt was clearly the best, but a late defensive loss gave Linfield a 1-0 victory in the Champions League qualifiers. Glimpses strike back at home."

Meanwhile, defender Høibråten who conceded possession to Millar for the goal, said: "It gets damn brutal in the end when what happens happens. Right now it's lead heavy. I get a bad touch that leads to another bad touch and that leads to their goal.

"It is leaden, but at the same time you just have to get up. There is nothing else to do. We controlled the match, but were not sharp enough in the last third. But it is not over even if you have a brain haemorrhage."

Dagb also praised the Windsor Park crowd, saying: "The scoring triggered wild scenes of jubilation among those present in Belfast. With the loss, Glimt must win at home next week if the hope of a Champions League game is to live on."

Meanwhile, Bodo manager Kjetil Knutsen told Avisa Nordland: "If we had played for 40 hours, we would not have been able to score."
