Line of Duty star Vicky McClure awarded MBE for services to acting and charity

Line of Duty actress Vicky McClure has been announced as one of the individuals recognised in the King's first Birthday Honours List.

Vicky, who is an ambassador for the Alzheimer's Society, received an MBE for services to acting and charity after her groundbreaking dementia campaigning where she shone a light on the positive impact of music therapy on dementia-sufferers.

BBC1's Our Dementia Choir with Vicky McClure was originally a two-part series in 2018 which saw the acclaimed actress set out to discover the extent of music power's in combatting dementia.

Vicky helped care for her grandma, Iris, who suffered with Alzheimer's, before her death in 2015 and she saw first-hand the effect music had in calming her down during times of stress.

The Line of Duty actress formed a choir of people all living with dementia in her hometown of Nottingham in 2018.

The choir has continued to grow since its inception and Our Dementia Choir Sings Again aired on BBC1 in October 2022.

Other famous faces on the Birthday Honours List include Davina McCall who receives an OBE for her career as a broadcaster and campaigner.

Vogue editor Dame Anna Wintour receives a special recognition as one of three awarded Companions of Honour for her services to fashion and publishing.

Sir Ian McEwan for his service to literature and Professor Sir John Bell, for his services to medicine and medical research were also listed for this special honour.

More than 1,000 recipients have been awarded recognition for their outstanding contributions across all sectors and parts of the UK.

Deputy Prime Minister Rt Hon. Oliver Dowden MP said: "This year’s honours list is a testament to ordinary people who have demonstrated extraordinary community spirit, and I pay tribute to all those who have been recognised today.

“Our honours system has long been a way of recognising people who make an incredible contribution to life in Britain and beyond.

“We are now focussed on levelling up the system to ensure it represents the length and breadth of the country, and I hope that the fantastic stories this year ensure more regional nominations in the future.”
