Lindsey Burrow's real life from meeting Rob as teenage sweethearts to being his rock since MND diagnosis

Very few couples who meet during their teenage years have a long-lasting relationship and a foundation to build a loving family on.

But Lindsey Burrow, who met husband Rob Burrow when she was just 15, has had many happy years with her hero of a husband. She has often spoken of how her dad told her to marry someone tall - Rob is only 5ft 4ins, but their relationship has stood the test of time.

Their marriage has been a happy and loving one, but it was hit by tragedy in December 2009, when the Leeds Rhinos star was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease. Lindsey has not left his side since and has been there through thick and thin.

Recalling the moment Rob was given his diagnosis, Lindsey told the Daily Mail: "I couldn’t begin to imagine what was going through his head, but it was him telling me to pull myself together, not the other way around. Rob made me understand that we had a stark choice: either we could waste what time he had left by dwelling on all the things he’d miss out on when he was gone, or we could make as many happy memories as possible.

"But sometimes I wonder how I have got through days. How I have got dressed in the morning, how I have found time to eat, how I was still standing up. Carrying on as normal is easier said than done."

The former rugby player recently revealed that he was glad to have his wife during his fight against the deadly disease that has left him unable to do day-to-day activities. Keen to raise awareness of the terminal illness, the dad-of-three has taken part in various campaigns and is also set to release his second documentary about life with MND.

The documentary, which airs today, October 18, will feature wife Lindsey as viewers witness Rob him at some of his most intimate and vulnerable moments from wife Lindsey carrying him up to bed to Rob on dad duties as he watches his children at their school sports day.

The couple have three children together, two daughters, Macy and Maya, and son Jackson. The mum of three often gives fans a glimpse into their family life with adorable snaps of her children and sweet pics on date nights with Rob.

Rob recently praised her “superhero” wife who was brought to tears when he urged her to find someone else after he dies.

Speaking to The Mirror he said: “I could not ask for a better help than my beautiful wife Lindsey. I know when you get married you say that you will be there in sickness and in health.

“I did not think she signed up to look after me so soon. She is my very own superhero and I could not be alive without her help with everything. I love her so much.”

But Lindsey added: “I’m so lucky to be Rob’s wife, despite the situation that we are in. Would I change things? Of course I would.

“But we can’t, so we just have to make the best of it and enjoy every moment that we have together. But it’s devastating, it’s heartbreaking.”

Lindsey is a physiotherapist who has worked with MND patients for years. She admits her job makes Rob's diagnosis harder. In an interview with The Guardian, she said to Rob: “I think you see things differently to me because of my medical background. When you don’t have that scientific knowledge and you look on the internet there’s a lot to read. The optimism is great. But it’s difficult because I don’t want to sound too downbeat. Sometimes, I just keep quiet. Everyone has their own way of dealing with things.”

Lindsey is also known for her cheer and commitment to her family, but previously admitted she finds birthdays and Christmas hard. She explains how Rob said last year that that Christmas could be his last, which really hit home to her.

In her interview with The Guardian, she said: "We will still make them happy days.”
