Lincoln duo make Drogheda United switch, as Imps snap up UCD striker

Drogheda United have snapped up Lincoln City pair Elicha Ahui and Freddie Draper on loan, while the Imps have signed Dylan Duffy from UCD.

Ahui and Draper will follow in the footsteps of Lincoln duo Sean Roughan and Sam Long, who both had loan spells with the Boynesiders last year.

Versatile 18-year-old Ahui, who can play in defence and midfield, said: “I’m very excited, it’s a great opportunity.

“I’ve heard good things from Sam and Sean, and everyone at Lincoln, and I’m really happy to be here.

“I know it’s a good standard here, and hopefully it’ll challenge me and I’ll be able to help the team out as well.”

And forward Draper, also 18, added: “Last year, I got a bit of action with Lincoln, played in League One. I want to play as many games and score as many goals as I can here.”

Drogheda boss Kevin Doherty paid tribute to Lincoln director of football Jez George, saying: “He has been fantastic to deal with over the last couple of years.

“I’m delighted to have both Freddie and Elicha join the club. They are two excellent players, I’ve watched a lot of their games.

“They’ll be well looked after. Having Sean and Sam on loan last year was very beneficial for all parties involved and we’re confident that this will be the same.”

Meanwhile, UCD forward Duffy hopes to impress Lincoln boss and ex-Ireland international Mark Kennedy now that he has completed his switch to the League One side.

Imps director of football George said: “Dylan is a talented young player, with exciting attacking attributes and potential, who will excite our fans once he has transitioned into full-time training, as he makes the huge step up into League One.

“We will give him time to do that. We really respect how UCD provide a platform for talented young footballers in Ireland to combine education with football at their highest level domestically.

“Their manager Andy Myler did a fantastic job in keeping their team in the Premier Division last season, balancing what is best for each individual with being competitive in the league. Dylan's progress is testament to that.”
