Loan stars Sam Long and Sean Roughan have left Drogheda United and returned to parent club Lincoln City.
The goalkeeper and defender were big hits with the Drogs in the first-half of the season after each making 15 appearances.
But new Lincoln boss Mark Kennedy - the former Ireland international - wants them back in England as he assesses his entire squad ahead of the new season.
Drogheda boss Kevin Doherty sensed the pair would be recalled but was keen for them to stay for the rest of the year.
Long turned in a number of eye-catching performances in goal and said: “My time with the team has been great.
“There’s a lot to be excited about with the squad that Kevin has got and the results of recent weeks show the quality of the squad.”
And Ireland underage international Roughan said: “I’ve loved every second playing for Drogheda.
“From the minute I walked through the door I felt at home. I can’t thank the fans, players, coaching staff, and backroom staff enough.
“It’s been a pleasure to call myself a Drog. I wish everyone involved in the club the best for the future and the season.”
