Actress Lily James has defended the raunchy sex scenes in upcoming Disney+ series Pam & Tommy - saying they are "essential".
The Mamma Mia star, 32, takes on the role of Baywatch icon Pamela Anderson in the show, which is set around the moment her 90s sex tape with ex-husband Tommy Lee was leaked online.
Early reviewers revealed scenes in the eight-part series, which launches on the streaming platform on Tuesday, would make Pam herself blush.
However Lily revealed to The Sun : "We really felt that the sex scenes had to be a part of the story and had to be essential to the script and progressing their relationship and looking at what happened.
"It was a really great constant conversation and nothing was set in stone."
Lily also added she "loved" researching the star for the role, describing Pam as "one of the biggest stars on the planet and an icon".
She added: "I got a lot out of this. It was definitely the biggest acting challenge of my life. It felt alive and I really loved that."
Pam's ex Tommy reportedly told his pal Guerin Swing he is "proud" to have created history and that he will be watching the series made about the couple.
According to his pal, Tommy will be tuning in. But Pamela will reportedly never watch the show as she believes the sex tape "ruined" their four-year marriage.
He previously told The Sun: "Tommy said to me the other day, 'Let everyone know we did it first. Before the Kardashians, before anyone else. Let the mother-f***ers know, we broke the internet first'."
Guerin added: "Itss essentially them just being kids, goofing with a video camera, a new toy. Tommy never showed me or anyone the video. He never talked bad about Pam. It wasn’t for anyone else to see."
Pam and Tommy were married from 1995 to 1998 after falling madly in love at first sight when they were introduced at celeb haunt Hollywood's Sanctuary Club, back in 1994.
The union of Playboy Playmate-turned-actress Pamela and Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy sparked huge public interest with the pair regularly making headlines with their raucous antics together.
