Lily Collins has shared a heartfelt post to mark her father Phil Collins ' birthday, telling the musician that she will "always need him," after mending their strained relationship.

The post, which included a throwback photo of the pair, continued: "We may not get to spend time together that often but when we are face to face, you really do see me."
Lily further commented: "You may not always believe it but please trust me when I say, no matter how old I get or what life may bring, I will always need you."
"Whether I'm proudly watching you up on stage, laughing at home together playing trivial pursuit, I'm forever grateful for the moments and memories we share," she added.
She concluded: "Especially the ones I now cherish as an adult myself. Thank you for inspiring me and supporting that woman I am today. I love you to the moon and back again."
They are said to have had a complicated relationship in the past though, and Lily e opened up about this her 2017 book Unfiltered: No Shame, No Regrets, Just Me.
She penned a collection of essays, including an open letter to Phil in which Lily said she forgave him for having not been the father she had "expected."
She wrote in the letter: "I forgive you for not always being there when I needed and for not being the dad I expected. I forgive the mistakes you made."
The actor - whose credits include Mank (2020) - said that although it may "seem like it's too late," there is still "so much time to move forward" with their relationship.

Addressing her childhood, she wrote in the letter that everyone makes choices and whilst she doesn't "excuse" some of her father's, "we can't rewrite the past."
She said that she was "learning" how to accept his actions, adding: "I accept and honour the sadness and anger I felt toward the things you did or didn't do, did or didn't give me."
Lily is understood to have since reconciled with her dad. They appear to have grown closer in recent years.
As part of a birthday tribute to him in 2020, she said: "No matter where we are or what we're going through, my love for you deepens and my understanding of you grows."
