People living on a road in Nottingham with a summery name which 'will make people smile' say they can't wait for the warmer months ahead. As summer quickly approaches, longer days with higher temperatures means people across the city will be excited to soak up the rays
In Bakersfield, is Sunnydale Road. With one side of the road classed as Bakersfield and the other classed as Carlton, one thing everyone can agree on is how much they love living there.
Bakersfield is a small residential suburb, it’s home to independent businesses such as Navarra, an Italian shop, a medical centre, schools, a church and more. With Colwick park nearby too the area is ‘nice and quiet.’

Ben Crawford, 33 lives on Sunnydale Road. The taxi driver said: “It’s a quiet area, I’ve never really thought much about the road’s name but I guess it will make people smile if they’re not from around here.”
Ben continued: “I’ve lived in Bakersfield all my life, we’re a walk away from Carlton, a walk away from Sneinton, there’s a good bus service and it’s a good location to live. It’s nice and quiet too, nothing major ever happens around here.”
Other summery road names in Nottingham includes: Sunny Row in Wollaton, Flowers Close in Arnold, Sunrise Avenue in Basford and Sunbourne Court in Radford. The average house price for Sunnydale Road, according to Rightmove last year was £250,0000.
Overall, sold prices in Sunningdale Road over the last year were 39% down on the previous year and 26% down on the 2009 peak of £340,000.
Jasmine and Ivan Saunders have lived in Bakersfield since 1973.
They walk or drive past Sunnydale Road often. Over the past five decades, they have both seen Bakersfield change a lot.
Ivan, 88 said: “Sunnydale has some nice houses, Bakersfield is alright. I go to the Tesco Express down the road and there used to be a bookies in the area too near Oakdale.”
Jasmine, 84 added: “Bakersfield is a nice area, there’s a local church that does a lot of craft work and there was a pub which is now the Tesco Express. In the summer, it’s nice around here; there’s Colwick Park and a lot of people visit too.”
The church holding arts and crafts once a week Jasmine attends is the Dales United Reform Church. Lee Royston, 70 lives in Bakersfield. Now retired, he said: “I walk down Sunnydale Road everyday, it’s a nice area with some lovely gardens. A lot of people on that road have dogs too because I see them all the time.
“Bakersfield has always had a good reputation, no one bothers you down here.”
