The original creator of the Life is Strange franchise, Don't Nod, hit back at "hateful" comments towards new developer Deck Nine over the latter's writing of the lore.
The issue comes as the latest entry in the series, Life is Strange: Double Exposure, is set to come out on Oct. 30, 2024. Michel Koch posted on X saying that he has not yet played the new game and has no idea where the new developers are taking the story.
Deck Nine Receives Hateful Comments
However, he argued that there was nothing that justifies "hating on people." He added that he has seen a lot of tension and hateful messages towards Deck Nine developers. He said that people can be disappointed or want other narratives for the characters that they adore.
Koch went on to say that creation is difficult and is very subjective. He noted that if Life is Strange: Double Exposure's story does not please someone, they should let go of what they had imagined for the game, according to Eurogamer.
The Life is Strange co-founder then received comments that they should freely accept player feedback. But Koch emphasized that while constructive criticism and civil disagreement are okay, violent messages and harassment are not.
Koch said that he knew exactly how bad it felt to be on the receiving end of such violent and negative comments. This was when they announced Sean and Daniel as they got toxic feedback for not bringing back Max and Chloe.
Life is Strange: Double Exposure
Developer Don't Nod has not worked on the Life of Strange franchise since the sequel that was released in 2018/2019. Deck Nine's latest entry in the series once again focuses on Max Caulfield, which is another point of debate for fans, VG247 said.
People who pre-ordered Life is Strange: Double Exposure's Ultimate Edition have had an early access starting several weeks ago. This has already led to some people finding out just what happened between Max and Chloe after the original games in the franchise.
The situation resulted in Deck Nine developers receiving a series of not-so-friendly messages on social media. Koch also suggested that he and his team would not have written the new game the same way but said that they accepted the new lore.
Life is Strange: Double Exposure brings back Max but not Chloe. Players will be able to select which previous ending they want to be "canon" during their playthrough. It is implied that the two individuals have broken up offscreen, according to PCGamer.
