Neighbours living in a area that "has gone downhill" spoke out after police raided a property on their street - discovering an illegal weapon as well as jars containing cannabis. The community on Valley Road, in Carlton, said they have noticed "smells" and car meets in the night.
It comes as response officers visited a house in Valley Road, Carlton, after receiving intelligence that linked the address to a separate offence. After being let inside the property at around 1.30am on Friday, May 27, police carried out a search.
A friction lock baton was found, the force said. Otherwise known as ‘telescopic truncheons’, it is now illegal to own, keep in a private place, or sell these weapons anywhere in the UK, Nottinghamshire Police said.

Along with the baton, the house search also led to multiple jars and containers filled with cannabis being discovered by response officers. The drugs and weapon were seized by the police.
But the incident had people talking of their life on this Carlton street. A neighbour, who wished to remain anonymous, said the area has "gone downhill". She added: "It used to be a great place to live.
"It used to be fabulous - but it has gone downhill. I have seen people dealing drugs on the street before. I have seen people meeting in their cars or motorbikes.
"I have seen cars racing up and down the road. It is an alright place to live in - it is just the drug dealing." A 25-year-old resident, who lived on Valley Road for more than 10 years but asked not to be named, added: "I have noticed smells before. I notice it back from a shopping trip.
"I thought the neighbours here are better than Netherfield - but it is difficult to tell. There is always cars going up and down the road.
"Sometimes you will have cars and motorbikes, especially in the summer, racing on the road. It can be annoying."
Another resident, who wished to remain anonymous, also added: "It is a long road, and I feel protected here. "This is like a community housing complex. But I am not surprised.
"I work in retail so I can see it. When customers are coming in - you can smell it."
PC Shiraz Hussain, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “As a direct result of this house search, we were able to discover an illegal weapon and also seize quantities of cannabis from inside the property. We are still in the process of carrying out further inquiries in relation to these findings, so would ask anyone who has any information that could assist us to contact the police.”
