‘Life flows on’: Vishaal Nityaanand’s movie aims to sensitize people on Alzheimer’s disease

The screening of Director Vishal Nityaanand’s movie ‘Life flows on’ marked the celebration of World Alzheimer’s Month in an event organised by Alzheimer’s & Related Disorders Society of India, Mumbai Chapter in collaboration with Bhaichand M Mehta Trust. While September is World Alzheimer’s Month, World Alzheimer’s day is observed on September 21. The day is observed to raise awareness around the disease and challenge the stigma around it.

The non-commercial screening of the film was well received by a packed auditorium in Nehru Centre, Worli Mumbai. Passionate about supporting social causes and taking it to the masses, director Nityanaand has successfully hit the right emotional spot with his story it has been said.

The film story is about three persons living with dementia, the challenges involved regarding caregiving, and much more. This screening of the movie, which was released in 2016 and is relevant till date, was done to give awareness, sensitize people, and stress what needs to be done if signs and symptoms confirm the diagnosis of the disease.

Dr. Zoya Ali Rizvi, Deputy Commissioner (Child & Adolescent. Health), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. New Delhi, India graced the event as the Chief Guest. Dr. Sanjay Bhide, Convenor and Secretary Trans Asian Chamber Commerce & Industry; Dr. Sadhana Tayade, ex-Director Medical Services, Ministry of Public Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of Maharashtra; Dr Ujwala Chakradeo, Vice Chancellor SNDT Women’s University and people of all walks of life, faculty and students from departments of psychology, gerontology and social work were a part of the event.

The movie was extremely well received with a Q&A session in the presence of the Director Vishaal Nityanand, Dr. Vidya Shenoy as ARDSI Mumbai Chapter, Hon. Secretary and Founder; Smriti Vishvam: Universe of Memory Integrative Therapist and Dementia Care Specialist gave the hands-on experience of what lies ahead and the arduous road families have to tread.
