Liel Abada Celtic transfer latest as Sporting Lisbon 'interested' but 'face' Ajax competition

Liel Abada is attracting transfer interest from Sporting Lisbon, according to a report.

Celtic confirmed the departure of Jota late last night in a big money move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad as he teams up with superstars Karim Benzema and N'Golo Kante as he departs the Scottish champions after two seasons in Glasgow. His exit will come as a major blow to the Hoops faithful and boss Brendan Rodgers.

Sky Sports News reports that Marcus Edwards has a lot of interest in his services from the English Premier League and would be open to a return to England. That would open the door for Sporting to move for Abada - who would be their number one choice if he departs but Dutch giants Ajax are also keen and want to sign the 21-year-old states the same report.

Abada has Champions League experience and has scored 28 goals and provided 20 assists in just 101 apperances since he joined the club under former Celtic gaffer Ange Postecoglou. He's now in charge of English Premier League outfit Tottenham with all players getting a clean slate under Rodgers as he begins his pre-season preparations.

The Israel international is still under contract until 2026 and would command a decent fee for the Scottish champions to sanction his sale.

On Jota's exit from Celtic, a club statement read: "After two seasons with the club, one on loan from Benfica and one on a full contract, Portuguese winger, Jota has left Celtic to join Saudi Arabian club, Al-Ittihad.

"In his time in the Hoops, Jota won two league titles as well as picking up winner’s medals in both the Scottish and League Cups.

"Everyone at Celtic Football Club wishes Jota success in his future career."
