Lidl issues urgent recall on meat product amid salmonella fears

Discounter supermarket Lidl has withdrawn two batches of a Deluxe meat product from its shelves after salmonella was found.

The affected product is two batches of Lidl's own label Deluxe Strolghino Salami, which have been removed because of food poisoning fears. Salmonella symptoms usually include fever, diarrhoea and stomach cramps.

The Food Standards Agency is advising anyone who has bought the salami should not eat it and return it to any Lidl store for a full refund.

The affected batches are:

Pack size: 250g

Best before: 13 Apr 2023 and 08 May 2023

Point of sale notices will be displayed in Lidl stores that are selling this product. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product. If you have any queries or concerns, email customer.services@lidl.co.uk or telephone 0800 977 7766.

Products can be recalled for lots of different reasons - for example, possible contamination, misleading or incorrect labels or, as in this case, allergens.

If you've bought a product that's been recalled, you have the right to a refund thanks to the Consumer Rights Act. The retailer that sold it should offer you a full refund, even if it's been in your cupboard or freezer for a while. Even if you've already consumed the product or thrown it away, you are still entitled to a refund if you can provide proof of purchase such as a receipt, bank statement, or online order confirmation.
