Lidl and Iceland recall chicken products with urgent 'do not eat' warnings

Iceland and Lidl shoppers have been warned not to eat some of their products amid safety fears. The Food Standards Agency has issued product recall notices on items from the supermarket giants.

Both recalled items are chicken products. They each have a warning for people not to eat those affected items but to return them for a full refund.

Iceland has recalled its Iceland Ready Cooked Diced Chicken Breast because some of it might not be raw. In its notice the FSA said: "Iceland is recalling Iceland Ready Cooked Diced Chicken Breast because some packs may contain uncooked chicken. The possible presence of raw, uncooked chicken makes this product unsafe to eat."

The affected product is the 800g pack size with a best before date of June 17, 2023. Iceland said in its product recall alert: "We are taking the precautionary measure of recalllng this batch of the above product because some packs may contain raw chicken which may pose a food safety risk.

"Only the Best Before Date listed In this notice Is affected. If you have purchased any of the above product, DO NOT eat it."

Anyone who has bought the product is urged to return it to any Iceland store where a full refund will be given. No receipt Is required. For futher details contact customer care on 0800 328 0800 in the UK, and select option 2. Those in the Republic of Ireland should call 018853868 and select option 5.

Lidl has also recalled a chicken product after it was mispacked. The store says some of its Birchwood Breaded Katsu Kievs were actually the Garlic and Herb Chicken Kiev in incorrect packaging.

The FSA said in its notice: "Lidl GB is recalling Birchwood 2 Breaded Katsu Kiev because it may contain milk which is not mentioned on the label. This is because the product has been mispacked with Garlic and Herb Chicken Kiev which contains milk. This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents."

The affected products are the 260g with use by date of October 24, 2022. Lidl said in its recall notice: "Lidl is recalling Birchwood 2 Breaded Katsu Kiev with Use By Date 24 OCT as the product may contain Garlic and Herb Chicken Kiev, which contains milk which is not declared.

"If you have bought the above-mentioned product and have an allergy or intolerance to milk, we advise you not to eat it. Instead, return it to a Lidl GB store for a full refund, with or without a receipt.

"Other Use By Dates or Birchwood products are not affected by this recall. Lidl GB wishes to apologise for any inconvenience caused. Any customers with queries or concerns can contact Customer Services on 0800 4441234 or customer.services@lidl.co.uk."
