Liberty Poole and Jake Cornish 'gave things another try' after bitter Love Island split

Jake Cornish has revealed that he and ex-girlfriend Liberty Poole 'gave things another go' after their public split on Love Island.

The former water engineer, 24, felt as though their time wasn't completely done after they decided to go their seperate ways in the famous villa, and so, he reached out after they found themselves back in the real world.

Jake and Dancing On Ice star Liberty, 22, paired up together on the very first day in the villa, and from there, their love story blossomed.

The smitten pair appeared to be going from strength-to-strength as blonde bombshell Liberty confessed her love to Jake after he asked her to be his girlfriend - but it wasn't meant to last.

During the final week of the ITV2 dating show, the pair decided to break-up and leave the show ahead of the grande finale where lovebirds Millie Court and Liam Reardon scooped the winners titles.

While it seemed things were over for good with Jake and Liberty after the Birmingham babe insisted she wanted to choose 'self-respect' over a boy, her ex-boyfriend has now revealed that the pair tried to work on their romance one more time after the show ended.

Jake revealed that he was 'devastated' when Liberty decided to call off their relationship, and said they tried to make things work on the outside world.

He told The Sun: “I only had one girlfriend before her, my childhood sweetheart. I’d never been dumped and it hurt. One minute we were planning a holiday together and arranging to meet each other’s families, the next it was over.

“I was devastated, I couldn’t think straight. My family was asking how my mental health was. Something made her decide that we weren’t right for each other and I had to take it on the chin.”

Jake went on: "Liberty was my cup of tea, but it took me a while to get to know her and for those feelings to grow. I’ve always been with blondes with blue eyes and big boobs — and we clicked.”

“We would talk for hours and laugh the entire time. We were planning a future together and saying we couldn’t wait to meet each other’s families. I had genuine feelings for her.

“I was mocked for calling her my girlfriend and the producers even prolonged it so it sounded like ‘girrrrrl-friend’. But what was I supposed to call her?”

Despite appearances, Jake insisted that he entered Love Island in a genuine bid to find love after having his heart broken following the break-down of his previous seven-year relationship.

“I had been in a long-term relationship for seven years before I went on Love Island. I wanted to find love again. I thought I had that with Lib — I was in love," he gushed.

“When I asked her to be my girlfriend she said, ‘I’ve never loved anyone like you.

"We decided we would give it a try. We were talking, but we had to agree that we were not right for each other.

“When it was announced she was on Dancing On Ice I sent her a message saying, ‘Well done Lib’. She replied, ‘Thank you’ and that is the last time I spoke to her.”

While Jake has remained single since his split with Liberty, the Birmingham babe has been linked to huge stars including Joey Essex and Jack Grealish.
