Liam Scales handed Ireland call up as Aberdeen sinner in line for senior debut after red card controversy

Liam Scales has been handed a quickfire chance to ease his Aberdeen pain after being called up to the Republic of Ireland squad for their Nations League clashes against Scotland and Aremnia after Norwich City defender Andrew Omobamidele was ruled out of their double header through injury.

On-loan Celtic man Scales was sent off for the Dons as he was booked twice within a minute and conceded the penalty that allowed Martin Boyle to level for Hibs before the Easter Road men went on to win all three points. Aberdeen boss Jim Goodwin was raging with Ryan Porteous and accused him of cheating to win the penalty.

But Scales has been boosted with his call up to Stephen Kenny's squad as he looks to win his first senior international cap. The former Shamrock Rovers utility man moved to Parkhead last year and has six caps at U21 level. A statement from the FAI read: "Norwich City defender Andrew Omobamidele has been ruled out of the Scotland and Armenia matches. The 20-year old defender sustained a groin injury in the 1-1 draw against West Bromwich Albion and has been replaced in the squad by Aberdeen defender Liam Scales. "
