Liam Rosenior has identified five Chelsea players as “special talents”.

Rosenior takes charge of his first game at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday when Chelsea play Arsenal in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final.

Cole Palmer, Reece James and Malo Gusto were left out of the squad for Saturday’s FA Cup win at Charlton game but Chelsea hope to have the trio back against Arsenal.

Rosenior and Chelsea medical staff will make a late call on their availability but their fitness would be a major boost for the Blues.

Asked about how to get the best out of Palmer, Rosenior went on to list the Chelsea players he views as “special talents”, with the Blues talisman inevitably among them.

“Cole is a special talent,” said Rosenior. “So is Moises Caicedo or Enzo Fernandez or Pedro Neto or Estevao.

“He [Cole] is a special talent. My job is to get to know him, to connect with him, to understand what gets the best out of him - and that takes time.

“I'm not here to talk about form or how he played under previous managers. I'm just super excited to work with him. The scary thing with Cole is he has already got world-class ability but he's only 23.

“The moments of genius against Fulham, when he steps over the ball to get Liam [Delap] in. There was a pass to Pedro Neto which was ridiculous. I can't wait to work with him on a regular basis.”

Rosenior had a conversation with Palmer on Monday when his fitness was among the topics discussed.

Palmer has played a full 90 minutes just three times for Chelsea this season, a campaign disrupted by a recurring groin injury which has heavily restricted his minutes.

Explaining Palmer’s omission at Charlton, Rosenior said: “To risk a player's health in January is a crazy thing to do if you have the ambition that you want to be strong at the end of the season.

“I want to give him the licence to go and do what he loves to do, which is create and score goals.”
