Liam Payne says he dislikes Zayn Malik for 'many reasons' after One Direction split

Liam Payne has revealed that he dislikes former One Direction band member Zayn Malik 'for many reasons' following the breakdown of their friendship.

The Bedroom Floor singer, who shot to fame alongside Zayn, 29, when One Direction appeared on The X Factor in 2010, has shed light on the current status of their friendship after Pillow Talk singer Zayn famously shunned his former bandmates.

In a candid interview on Impaulsive with Logan Paul, Liam shared his thoughts on the recent headlines surrounding Zayn - in particular - the rumour that he allegedly 'shoved' Gigi Hadid's mum, Yolanda Hadid, into a dresser during a heated altercation.

Liam candidly admitted that while there are many reason he will always 'dislike' Zayn, there are also several reasons why he will always stick by his estranged friend after the pair spent six years touring the world together alongside their other bandmates, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson.

"There’s many reasons why I dislike Zayn and there’s many reasons why I’ll always, always be on his side," Liam told.

Liam went on to shed light on Zayn's seemingly tough upbringing as he suggested that the singer's childhood impacted his navigation into adulthood.

"If I had had to go through what he went through - with his growth and whatever else. My parents are overly supportive to the point where it’s annoying at times. Zayn had a different upbringing in that sense," Liam told.

“You can always look at the man for where he is and say, ‘Oh yeah, whatever, that guy’s a d***'. But at the end of the day, once you’re understanding what he’s been through to get to that point and also whether or not he wanted to be there.

“Listen, I don’t agree with any of his actions. I can’t commend some of the things that he’s done. I can’t be on his side for that,” he added.

Liam finished off the interview by suggesting that he has reached out to Zayn to offer help amid the chaos - but Zayn has yet to get back in touch with his former bandmate.

“What I can say is I understand and your only hope is that at some point in their life, the person at the other end of the phone wants to receive the help that you’re willing to give them," Liam said.

After six incredible years of One Direction, things turned sour between the boys when Zayn - famously quit in 2015 explaining that he wanted to be a “normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight” after five years on the road.

His departure is said to have come as a huge shock to the group, with Liam branding it the 'worst time' for the band but vowing: "I’m super sure us and Zayn will always remain the closest friends."

Sadly, it wasn't to be. Later that year Zayn slammed the the music of One Direction, telling Fader magazine their pop records were “generic as f***.”

And in an interview with British Vogue in 2018, Zayn hinted he had fallen out with his former bandmates after they made “snide” comments about him.

He said: “I ain’t spoke to any of them for a long time, to be honest with you.

“That’s just the way it is. There’s things that happen and things that were said after I left. Snide things. Small things that I would never have expected.”

And in 2016 he insisted he'd never wanted to be in the band to begin with, telling radio station Beats1: "I think I always wanted to go, from like the first year, really. I never really wanted to be there, like in the band."
