Liam Payne's very chiselled new look explained as expert weighs in on 'extreme fat loss'

Rumours have been swirling lately after transformed Liam Payne was snapped sporting a very different look.

The 1D hunk got tongues wagging as he showed off his new chiselled jaw during a date night with his girlfriend Kate Cassidy.

The 29-year-old first shocked fans with his new look last week as he attended the premiere of former bandmate Louis Tomlinson's new film All Of Those Voices.

Speculation has been mounting since that the star may have undergone the latest Hollywood aesthetic treatment of Buccal Fat removal, giving them a more angular face as a result.

It's all rumour of course, but now some experts have had their say on the debate.

Aesthetician and lumenis practitioner Dr Saleena Zimri says the procedure is one of the most popular with celebs in 2023 so far.

The founder of Skin Doctor Clinics told The Mirror: "It does look like Liam has had some kind of buccal fat removal with the possibility of a jaw implant also!

"The buccal fat pad is an isolated fat pocket that sits just below the cheekbone on each side of the face, almost directly above the lower lip.

"The extraction of this fat pad has been performed to contour the cheekbone for years, as it helps to define a rounder face shape, giving it permanent structure, without the use of makeup.

"I have seen a huge spike in popularity in the past six weeks, as we have seen more celebrities adopting the look."

She added: "The majority of people I see who have had or are seeking this type of treatment are typically in their 20s to 40s with full, round, or 'chubby' cheeks who seeks a more defined facial appearance."

Dr Zimri detailed what exactly is involved - and says it could be done within the hour.

“The procedure can be done under general or local anaesthetic, with a small incision being made inside of the cheek," she explained.

"The fat is then gently teased out through this small incision. This will happen on both sides of the cheek over a period of around 45-60 minutes, before dissolvable stitches are placed to close the incisions.

"Afterwards, the healing and recovery time is a few days, by then you should be able to return to work.

"However, visible signs of swelling may not disappear for around 4-6 weeks."

But the medic warned: "Anyone considering buccal fat removal should consider the longer-term implications too. Well-defined cheek hollows and less fat on the face looks good now in younger patients, but as we age, we lose volume in our face, and this can cause us to look visibly older.

"I wouldn't recommend this procedure to anyone over the age of 40, as it may lead to an appearance that enhances the visible signs of ageing. Also, if your face is already angular, buccal fat removal could make you look gaunt, and older than you are."
