Liam Payne has been laid to rest at a private funeral in Amersham, north-west of London on Wednesday afternoon (London Time). His former One Direction bandmates Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan joined Payne’s family and girlfriend Kate Cassidy as they said their final goodbyes to the singer.
Payne tragically died after falling from a third-storey hotel balcony in Argentina last month.
The 31-year-old’s body arrived at 12th-century St. Mary’s church in a horse-drawn carriage pulled by two white horses. His dark blue casket was covered in white roses and adored with tributes which said “son” and “daddy”. It was a nod to the 7-year-old son Bear he had with his ex Cheryl Tweedy, who was also in attendance.
Payne’s parents, Karen and Geoff Payne, stood stoically outside the church as they welcomed small groups of mourners wearing black.
Shortly after Payne’s parents and close family arrived, the former One Direction members entered the church separately.
The small, private funeral was also attended by a few other famous faces including James Cordon, Simon Cowell and Girls Aloud members Kimberley Walsh and Nicola Roberts.
The location of the funeral was kept under wraps by the family to prevent crowds from gathering. However, small groups of locals and fans arrived nearby.
After the service, Payne’s body was driven away in a black hearse.
Liam Payne died on October 16. Preliminary autopsy reports show that his cause of death was due to injuries sustained during the fall from a third-storey hotel balcony in Buenos Aries, Argentina. It also revealed that the singer had multiple drugs in his system at the time of his death, including pink cocaine.
His body was flown back to London last week. Three people have reportedly been charged in relation to his death.
