Liam Gallagher has accused Declan Rice of 'lacking ambition' ahead of a potential transfer to Arsenal. The 24-year-old continues to be heavily linked with a big move this summer following his impressive performances for West Ham.
Despite the arrival of Jorginho in January, football.london understand that the Gunners identified Rice as a priority signing earlier this year. After seeing two bids rejected, the Gunners tabled a club-record offer of £100million, including £5million in add-ons, for the Hammers captain on Tuesday night.
Since then, Manchester City have decided to pull out of the race, leaving the door wide open for Mikel Arteta to get his man. The north Londoners are said to be in the market for a new midfielder this summer, with Thomas Partey expected to leave.
While Arsenal fans have entered a state of jubilation, City supporters have struggled to understand why Rice might snub a move to the Etihad Stadium – especially off the back of a historic treble. One of whom is Liam Gallagher, who's taken a brutal swipe at the England international on social media.
In response to one of the 50-year-old's tweets, somebody asked him for his thought on Rice joining the Gunners. To which he replied: "Lack of ambition."
While Liam Gallagher is, understandably, upset that his club failed to get their hands on the midfielder, Robbie Fowler also believes that Rice should go to City over Arsenal if he's looking for silverware. In a column for the Mirror, the former Liverpool striker said: "If Declan Rice wants to win trophies then he must sign for Manchester City.
"Apologies to any Arsenal fans who think that the West Ham midfielder can realise his full potential by moving across the capital. The reality is that the Gunners are a work in progress who punched above their weight last season - and still finished second to City.

"The one thing a player is guaranteed when they sign up for Pep Guardiola at the Etihad is a bag full of medals. Just ask the last midfielder who cost City £100 million. Since leaving Aston Villa two years ago, Jack Grealish has won the Champions League, two Premier League titles and the FA Cup. No wonder Jack felt like celebrating after City clinched the treble!"
