Liam Fox slammed his Dundee United players for a lack of responsibility as they threw away a precious Parkhead point and sunk to rock bottom in the table. Dylan Levitt’s 87th minute equaliser looked to have earned the Taysiders a valuable draw having trailed 2-1.
But they crumbled as Celtic threw everything at them in the final minutes. And Fox reckons the defending at the 90th minute corner which led to Kyogo Furuhashi restoring the Hoops’ lead simply wasn’t good enough. He said: “Tough to take. I’m more frustrated for the players than anything else, they put so much into the game.
“To get back level with a couple of minutes to play, we all know how difficult it is to take anything from Celtic Park, so to get ourselves in a position to do that and then to switch off from a set piece... The fourth goal is irrelevant, it's the third that kills us. It's not good enough from us that late in the game. We know there's going to be an onslaught. We worked on that during the week, which makes it even more frustrating. I understand when you make subs that there's an element of change to the set ups that we do but we need people to take responsibility and step up in these moments.”
Millwall scouts were at Parkhead to run the rule over United midfield duo Levitt and McGrath. Welsh ace Levitt climbed off the bench to curl home the 87th minute equaliser while Irish ace McGrath held his own in the middle of the park. And Fox said: "I'd expect that, people want to come and watch good players. If we are playing well and players are performing, it's normal for people to come and watch them. That's what clubs do. Nobody rates Dylan Levitt higher than me and I got a brilliant response from him today. I am delighted for him.”
Fox admitted VAR worked in his side’s favour with the early penalty award - a week on from it costing Tony Watt a red card which was overturned on appeal. But he said: "I wasn't best pleased with it last week but this week it has probably worked in our favour getting the penalty. From my point of view, I prefer they take a bit longer to get the right decision but it does disrupt the flow of the game.”
