Liam Broady tells mum 'chill out' and leaves Wimbledon crowd in stitches

World number 142 Liam Broady stunned the Wimbledon centre court crowd on Thursday and left them in stitches with his post-match interview.

Broady had just shocked No.4 seed Casper Ruud 6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 to take his place in the third round of the prestigious competition in SW19.

It was a surprise second-round result and the 29-year-old was understandably elated conducting his media duties, but he was able to crack a gag at his mother's expense.

"You looked so cool and calm out there, I'm not sure what the heart-rate was doing, I'm not sure what your family's heart-rate was doing up there (pointing to family enclosure) neither, but I think it was pretty high on both counts!" he was asked.

Broady responded: "Well, I said to my mum this morning, she doesn't like watching. I said 'look, I've already won 80 grand this week, so you can chill out a bit!'"

The joke was greeted with laughter from around the court and his family. You can read more about Wimbledon prize money here.

Stockport-born Broady's name will now go into the the next round where he will face Denis Shapovalov.

He added: "I would have liked to have played him (Rudd) back home, but Centre Court of Wimbledon will do.

"When I went to bed last night, I was having a think of what I'd say if I won the match, but now I'm here I don't know what to say.

"Denis is a mercurial talent, he's one of the best players in the world as is Casper. He's won junior Wimbledon. He's an amazing player. With a crowd like this then why not have a go again."
