Liam Broady has become the latest British star to crash out of Wimbledon following a straight-sets defeat to Australian Alex de Minaur.
Broady fell 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 to the 23-year-old Australian and 19th seed who shone on No 1 Court. De Minaur's girlfriend, British hopeful Katie Boulter, had earlier also been knocked out of Wimbledon following a swift 51-minute defeat to Harmony Tan.
For 28-year-old Broady he did his utmost to battle his way into the fourth round at SW19. After losing the first two sets he managed to battle his way from a break down in the third, breaking back late on. to level things up at 5-5.
However, his efforts ultimately weren't enough as De Minaur lifted his level to break back once more - a fourth time overall - and eventually take the third set 7-5 following an epic final game. The Australian looked perfectly at home once again on the Wimbledon show courts and the crowd gave him their seal of approval when asked post-match if he believed he had one them over with his performances.
"It was definitely harder out there than I wanted it to be but, at the end of the day, this is tennis anything can happen," the Australian said after his victory. "On an amazing court in front of an amazing crowd playing a Brit, more than anything just relief to be in the second week of Wimbledon."
"It's incredibly special - Wimbledon in itself is such a special tournament so to be able to come here, and play here, it's an honour so I'm just enjoying every second I can on the grass and trying to ride this wave.
"That sounded pretty good to me [referring to the atmosphere] - I appreciate all the support, I cherish every moment I can get on this court and if I can get your guys support it means the world so I appreciate it. I will just try keep on doing on me, stay excited and stay pumped."
De Minaur will now face Cristian Garin in the fourth round, who overcame Jenson Brooksby 6-2, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 earlier on today.
It has been a difficult day so far with British hopefuls at SW19 following Boulter's exit in the morning. However, she is sure to be supporting her boyfriend De Minaur has his journey continues.
Britain's Heather Watson as Ken Skupski have also withdrawn from the mixed doubles tournament, citing a knee injury for Watson. There are hopes her injury isn't too serious after she made the Wimbledon fourth round of the singles for the first time in her career.
