Lexington-based Talon Winery is bringing home two awards from this year’s Kentucky Wine Competition. It won its fourth and fifth Commissioners Cup, the statewide competition’s top prize.
The winery was recognized in the Best Rosé/Blush category for its Coyote Red wine, and the Best White category for its Vidal Blanc wine.
Other wineries recognized were Reid’s Livery Winery from Alvaton, who won the Best Red and Best Boutique categories, and Burkesville’s Up The Creek Winery for the Best Sweet/Dessert/Fruit category.
A total of 95 wines from 15 wineries entered the competition. Each wine had to first win a gold medal in the Commercial Wine Competition and be produced from at least 75 percent Kentucky-grown fruit.
Each wine entered was judged based on its clarity, varietal typicity, integration, expressiveness, complexity and connectedness.
