As April moves into May outdoor activities are likely to be on the increase in central Kentucky. That includes a variety of biking opportunities.
Lexington Division of Environmental Services Director Jennifer Carey told Councilmembers about in-school bike safety lessons along with a bike library where bicycles can be loaned out to students. Council Member Hannah LeGris said trips down the Legacy Trail or Town Branch Commons can build confidence.
“That type of connectivity that allows people who maybe aren’t comfortable riding their bikes on the street or in bike lanes to have a starting point…a little more separated from cars,” said LeGris.
May is bike month. In addition, Lexington’s annual Streetfest is scheduled for May 13th. It celebrates streets as shared public spaces. LeGris said there will be a number of biking events in the Lexington area during May.
