The first Imagine New Circle meeting was held Thursday and the Lexington city councilmember whose district includes much of the area in question called it a “finally kind of moment.” Councilmember Denise Gray grew up in the 6th District and says the stretch between Newtown Pike and Richmond Road needs a lot of work.
“It feels like the residents of the north side have been heard about the issues regarding a New Circle Road regarding the numerous car dealerships, the lack of opportunity.”
The public forum was held in council chambers and was part of a Planning Commission meeting. Gray said she’s lived most of her life in the 6th District and said she’s optimistic about improving that area of New Circle Road.
“It's not gonna be easy. Nothing that we do is easy. So it will be difficult. Hopefully, we will have business owners who understand in order for Lexington to grow, we got to do things differently.”
Gray said her wish list includes fewer car dealerships, affordable housing where some parking lots are, sidewalks, bike lanes, buried powerlines and fewer massage parlors.
