Lexington mayoral candidates field questions in their final forum

A Lexington bookstore served as host for the fourth and final mayoral candidate forum-debate Thursday night. Incumbent Linda Gorton and challenger, Urban County Council Member David Kloiber fielded questions during the hour-long radio event. Kloiber hopes that attendees and listeners heard collaboration as a theme.

“It’s about the community working together to solve these problems; crime, the budget, traffic, housing. A person can have ideas. It’s a community that makes them happen,” said Kloiber.

Kloiber said these forums provided opportunities to express his ideas. He says that benefits his campaign because many people don’t know him well.

Mayor Gorton said these appearances are beneficial because people want to hear candidates' ideas, positions, and what they propose to do.

One question near the end of the hour-long radio broadcast event centered on the possibility of a second senior center. Gorton said research shows where heavier pockets of seniors live.

“I don’t want people to get excited it’s going to happen this year or next year because we have to put our resources together to do it. But I see another one in our future,” said Gorton.

Listen for an in-depth feature report with Kloiber and Gorton in the coming weeks before Election Day on November eighth.
