Beginning Monday, a stretch of Manchester Street in much of Lexington’s Distillery District will become a one-way street. Nancy Albright, the city’s Environmental Quality and Public Works commissioner, said the move will allow workers to install a permanent barrier between a bicycle lane and driving lane.
“Since we still have a lot of vehicles that either park in the bike lanes, or more frequently, they drive over that barrier. And that's become a lot of challenge for multiple reasons.”
Albright said installing permanent barriers is expected to take a month, and while it’s underway, that portion of Manchester Steet will be one-way, towards the city.
“There will be additional signage. If you are leaving the distillery area around pepper and Barrelhouse and those areas, Thompson Road you'll have more options.”
Albright said city officials want people to know bars, businesses, restaurants and distilleries in the Distillery District will remain open during the barrier installation.
