Lexi Thompson took the lead after the first round of the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship with a 4-under 68, holding a one-shot advantage over Nelly Korda and Patty Tavatanakit. Thompson, who started her round with three consecutive birdies, showcased a strong performance with six birdies in total. Her bogey-free front nine set the tone for her round, finishing with a 6-foot birdie on the par-3 ninth. Thompson's last LPGA Tour victory was in June 2019, and her 68 marks her lowest round in a major since two years ago.
Korda and Tavatanakit both shot 69 to stay close behind Thompson. Korda, who had a strong start with four birdies in her first five holes, faced challenges on the course but managed to finish with a 15-foot putt on her final hole to secure a one-shot lead over Tavatanakit.
