F1's seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton has issued a heartfelt message on social media in support of Ukraine amid Russia's invasion.
Russia's invasion of Ukraine continues to alarmingly escalate, and new explosions were heard in Kyiv on Friday night as thousands of civilians desperately flee the country's capital.
The latest news comes after 137 Ukrainians were tragically killed on the first day of the invasion, with hundreds more injured as the country's president Volodymyr Zelensky called up reservists.
Many of the world's biggest athletes have spoken out on the tragic events, and now F1 icon Hamilton has issued a strong statement on the ongoing scenes.
After Friday's pre-season testing in Barcelona, the Mercedes driver took to Instagram with the message: "When we see injustice it is important we stand against it.
"My heart goes out to all the courageous people of Ukraine who are facing such terrible attacks for simply choosing a better future and I stand with the many Russian citizens who oppose this violence and seek peace, often at risk to their own freedom.
"Please stay safe everyone. We are praying for you."
The conflict in Ukraine has already had a big impact on the upcoming F1 season after it was confirmed on Friday that the 2022 Russian Grand Prix would be cancelled.
Following a crunch meeting in Barcelona on Thursday evening, F1 bosses made the decision to scrap the race in Sochi - which was scheduled for the end of September.
"The FIA Formula 1 World Championship visits countries all over the world with a positive vision to unite people, bringing nations together," a statement read.
"We are watching the developments in Ukraine with sadness and shock and hope for a swift and peaceful resolution to the present situation.
"On Thursday evening Formula 1, the FIA, and the teams discussed the position of our sport, and the conclusion is, including the view of all relevant stakeholders, that it is impossible to hold the Russian Grand Prix in the current circumstances."
