Lewis Hamilton hits back at critics slamming F1 star as "so draining" and "a mad hippy"

Lewis Hamilton couldn't help but giggle to himself after a Formula 1 troll described him as "a mad hippy".

It was one of several insults directed at the Brit which were picked out by his Mercedes team for a new video. In the clip, posted to the team's YouTube channel, Hamilton is given a selection of social media messages to which he responds.

And it wasn't long before the seven-time world champion was laughing to himself at the ridiculousness of some of the comments. The first was from a fan who wrote: "Lewis Hamilton is so draining man. Can't the guy just say a sentence without curing world peace or just being a mad hippy?"

Hamilton's immediate reaction was to giggle at the insult before admitted he was at a loss for how to respond. "What do you want me to say? I'm a positive guy," declared the Brit as he move onto the next post.

"Lewis Hamilton dresses like a non-speaking extra from Back To The Future 2," wrote one troll, while another said: "I sometimes think Lewis Hamilton is just a character from Zoolander." The Brit took those jibes at his fashion sense in good faith as he pointed out that he actually made a cameo appearance in the sequel to the Ben Stiller movie.

One fan reference a viral video from 2021 in which Hamilton appeared to be scared at the sudden appearance of an onion in his car. To the joke, the Mercedes racer responded: "I just don't know why you would waste your time writing that. Like, okay?"

He also laughed at another troll who said he "looked like a prat riding around the paddock on a kids' scooter". And when another took aim at his dress sense he shrugged and declared: "These aren't really that bad."

At the end of the video, though, Hamilton had an important message to share to those who write such things on social media. He said: "I just want to say to everyone that has an opinion, everyone has a right to an opinion. Anyone out there that doesn't like me, that's totally fine.

"You're not supposed to love everyone in the world. I wish you nothing but positivity and I still appreciate the comments because they are pretty funny, to be honest."
