Lewis Ferguson to sign Bologna contract extension & will receive bumper pay increase

Lewis Ferguson will finally formally put pen to paper on a Bologna contract extension before the end the week, according to reports in Italy.

The former Aberdeen and Hamilton Academical star is poised to commit his future to the club until summer 2029, and will receive a significant salary increase in the process.

This announcement, which was teased by dad, Derek, last week, comes as Ferguson continues to solidify his status as a key player for the Serie A side.

Since making the move to Italy in 2022, Ferguson has experienced a remarkable rise, both on and off the pitch.

Initially facing the challenges of adapting to playing in a top five European league, the 25-year-old midfielder has not only overcome those hurdles but has truly flourished.

His leadership qualities have earned him the captaincy at Bologna, a testament to his growing influence within the team.

When fit, Ferguson has consistently demonstrated his importance to the squad, contributing both defensively and offensively.

His ability to control the midfield and orchestrate play has made him a fan favourite and a vital asset for head coach Thiago Motta.

The Scottish international's performances have garnered attention, showcasing his technical skills and tactical awareness, which have become increasingly refined during his time in northern Italy.

Ferguson agonisingly missed Euro 2024 this summer because of a cruciate ligament injury, but is expected to become a pivotal member of Steve Clarke's Scotland national team squad in the year's ahead.

He has previously been linked with a transfer switch to Juventus and now could earn Bologna a fortune should he be sold in before his new contract expires.
