Four years on from success of his first studio album, Lewis Capaldi is finally ready to release his second. And if what we’ve heard so far is anything to go by, it should do well in the charts.
In anticipation of his new album being released, Lewis sat down with Spotify to talk about the inspiration behind each song.
In a reel shared on the streaming giant’s Instagram page, captioned: “@LewisCapaldi takes us through the songs of his upcoming album, Broken By Desire to Be Heavenly Sent, out May 19,” the pop singer takes listeners through each song one by one.
Alongside Number 1 singles, ‘Forget Me’, ‘Pointless’, and 'Wish You The Best’, single and title of his documentary, ‘How I’m Feeling Now’ will also feature. Fans of the singer will also be excited to hear that a new song called 'The Pretender', the writing of which is featured in the Netflix film and famously described by his dad as ’sh**e’, will be included on the album.”

While the themes of his songs tend to be more on the sad side, fans cannot get enough of the 26-year-old’s music. In the reel, Lewis shares an insight fans have never heard before.
Forget Me
The first song he mentions is the first single he released from his new album back in September 2022. Talking about the inspiration behind this song, Lewis said: “Forget Me is a song that I wrote about a relationship that I had been in, where I was seeing the other person sort of move on.”
Wish You The Best
In recent weeks, fans have taken to social media to share how they balled their eyes out when watching the music video for the song, but where did the inspiration for the song come from? Lewis said: “Wish You The Best is a song about what you don’t say to people as opposed to what you are saying out of love.”
Pointless
Another one of the singles already released, Pointless hit number one after being released in December last year. Talking openly about this song and how it was written, Lewis said: “Pointless is a song that I wrote, let’s be honest it’s a bit of a cheesy love song, which I have really done before, but my friend who I wrote it with, Ed Sheeran, has done hundreds.”
The rest of the video takes viewers through the rest of his new songs that feature in his new album, which will be available to stream and buy after release on 19th May.
