Lewis Capaldi's sister hits back at trolls who branded parents 'cruel' in documentary

Lewis Capaldi's older sister Danielle hit out at trolls online who criticised her parents following the release of the West Lothian singer's Netflix documentary.

How I'm Feeling Now hit the streaming platform on April 5 and was met with widespread praise from those who enjoyed learning more about Lewis' personal life, as well as the life of his family.

However, some critics used it as an opportunity to brand his parents 'harsh' and 'cruel' as his dad Mark and mum Carole are often seen discussing Lewis' mental health and shoulder twitch - prior to his Tourette's diagnosis, reports the Record.

Lewis' sister Danielle was quick to address the negative comments from those online and backed her parents, saying they are "ordinary" and only want nothing but happiness for their talented son.

Sharing a photo of her and Lewis posing with their middle fingers up, Danielle penned a TikTok message to the people criticising her parents. She wrote in the caption: "When reading negative comments on parents."

Teacher Danielle added: "Lewis' documentary has had a lot of positive responses but unfortunately there will always be people who have to look for problems where there aren't any. If you don't get Scottish patter or parents who were worried about their son, don't comment."

Fans rushed to the comments to praise Danielle for backing her parents and supporting Lewis. One said: "Thought your mum & dad were amazing, so supportive of Lewis & everything he does!"

"I actually love the fact Lewis comes from a normal down to earth typical Scottish family that's the first thing I said when I saw your parents! X," another added. A third said: "Love this! Your parents came across as loving and supportive. Obviously a strong family who are there for each other."

Playing devil's advocate, one fan wrote: "Your dad does come off harsh at first though. I get it, like I have family like that too, old school and not really up on mental health. they learn tho."

In response, Danielle clapped back: "We didn't know he had Tourette's at this point. He went through me having MH issues that looked nothing like Lewis' tics. He wanted him to get help.

"Lewis was in agony from his shoulder tic. He's not being harsh he's worried and hates seeing him in pain-this is one scene people are misinterpreting."

Lewis Capaldi: How I'm Feeling Now is now available to watch on Netflix.
