Lewis Capaldi leans on girlfriend for ‘support’ after announcing extended break from touring

Lewis Capaldi is being supported by his girlfriend Ellie MacDowall after announcing he is taking an extended break from touring due to his Tourette’s syndrome, according to a new report.

Capaldi confirmed on Tuesday, in a message posted on Instagram and Twitter, that he will now be “taking a break from touring for the foreseeable future”.

The Scottish star, 26, said his performance at Glastonbury at the weekend made it “obvious that I need to spend much more time getting my mental and physical health in order, so I can keep doing everything I love for a long time to come.”

Performing on the Pyramid stage on Saturday, he was emotional as the crowd carried him through songs as he struggled with his voice.

In the wake of his announcement, it is reported that the 23-year-old actress is by Capaldi’s side and “comforting” him.

A source told MailOnline: “Lewis needs to be around those who love him at the moment and Ellie is supporting and comforting him through this really difficult time.”

The pair are believed to have begun their relationship last December but made their first public appearance together in February.

Despite their outing earlier this year, they have kept their romance largely under wraps. However, MacDowall has hinted at their relationship on Instagram in carousel posts, which feature Capaldi.

“He absolutely adores her,” the insider added. “She wasn’t at Glastonbury but his parents were, along with his very supportive team that he has around him.

“As soon as he got home, Ellie made sure she was here for him.”

Earlier this month, he cancelled all his other commitments in June ahead of the festival at Worthy Farm to allow himself time to “rest and recover”, however one such Tourette’s attack came on as he performed his hit single Someone You Loved.

During his performance, Capaldi had several involuntary movements of his arms and head which caused his voice to falter.

The crowd had his back however, with thousands singing the lyrics at the top of their lungs while he took some time to compose himself.

His performance was later hailed as “brave” online, with his fans telling him he had “nothing to apologise for”.
