Lewis Capaldi breaks silence following Glastonbury performance and cancels touring 'for the foreseeable'

Lewis Capaldi has broken his silence following his performance at Glastonbury on Saturday and has announced that he will be taking a break from touring 'for the foreseeable future'.

The Scots star struggled with his Tourette's symptoms during his set at the weekend and opened up to the crowd about it but today he has said that he's still learning to adjust to life with his diagnosis.

In a new social media post, the singer thanked his adoring fans and gave them an update.

He said: "Hello everyone.

"First of all, thank to Glastonbury for having me, for singing along when I needed it and for all the amazing messages afterwards. It really does mean the world.

"The fact that this probably won't come as a surprise doesn't make it an easier to write, but I'm very sorry to let you know I'm going to be taking a break from touring for the forseeable future.

"I used to be able to enjoy every second of shows like this and I'd hoped 3 weeks away would sort me out. But the truth is I'm still learning to adjust to the impact of my Tourette's and on Saturday it became obvious that I need to spend much more time getting my mental and physical health in order, so I can keep doing everything I love for a long time to come.

"I know I'm incredibly fortunate to take some time out when others can't and I'd like to thank my amazing family, friends, team, medical professionals and all of you who've been so supportive every step of the way through the good times and even more so during this past year when I've needed it more than ever.

"I'm so incredibly sorry to everyone who had planned to come to a show before the end of the year but I need to feel well to perform at the standard you all deserve.

"Playing for you every night is all I've ever dreamed of so this has been the most difficult decision of my life. I'll be back as soon as I possibly can.

"All my love, always, Lewis x"

The announcement confirms that his upcoming tour dates - which would see Lewis perform in Edinburgh on September 1 - will be cancelled.

Lewis’ tour was set to kick off at the end of June when he would have performed across the globe from the UK and Europe all the way to Australia and New Zealand.

It comes as fans of the 26-year-old star sang along to 'Someone You Loved' after he battled through ticks and losing his voice.

At the festival, he told his loyal fans: "I recently took three weeks off just because I have been non-stop since the start of the year and I wanted to have a wee break for my head and my mental health.

"I wanted to come back and to do Glastonbury because it is so incredible, so I just wanted to thank you all for coming out and watching us.

"I was s**t-scared but you really made me feel at ease. I am really sorry and I hope (Emily) Eavis will have me back on because this has been a f*****g s**t show.

"I feel like I will be taking another wee break over the next couple of weeks so you probably won’t see much of me for the rest of the year. But when I do come back and when I do see you, I hope you are all still up for watching us and singing songs with us.

"I'm going to be honest everybody but I'm starting to lose my voice up here, but we're going to keep going and we're going to go until the end. I just need you all to sing with me as loud as you can if that's okay."

Lewis has been open about his struggle with Tourette’s and the toll that fame has taken on his mental health and was vulnerable with the crowd about how he was feeling ahead of taking to the stage.

The thousands in the crowd continued singing as Lewis struggled with his voice and he looked overcome with emotion as they helped him through.
