Levi Colwill Chelsea transfer promise made as Liverpool interest is knocked back

Chelsea have received a promise over Levi Colwill’s future with the club.

The 20-year-old celebrated winning the European Championship with England Under-21s on Saturday. Colwill was at the centre of the action, being booked for his part in a confrontation after the Young Lions’ only goal. The defender’s nerves would have been seriously tested as Spain received a soft penalty from his challenge in the final minute, only for goalkeeper James Trafford to produce an incredible double save.

Fresh from his successful loan spell with Brighton last season, the young Blues defender is reportedly a target for both the Seagulls and Liverpool. However, Chelsea and England U21 teammate Noni Madueke had a positive message for Blues supporters.

Wearing their winners’ medals after the final whistle, Madueke hijacked Colwill’s Instagram live video to deliver a promise: “Listen, we’re both coming back. He is as well. Listen, I’ll make sure he comes back.”

Madueke’s declaration will be music to the ears of Chelsea fans. football.london understands that Liverpool have made multiple enquiries over his availability, while Brighton are claimed to have bids of up to £40million rejected. Colwill is thought to want assurances over first team football but Pochettino had a promising message for both Colwill and Madueke, ahead of the u21s final.

"We spoke yesterday with Levi and Noni. One I know, Noni, from Tottenham, in the Under-18s. Of course Levi I know," Pochettino said in his first press conference as Chelsea head coach on Friday.

“We wish them all the best. We're waiting for them to be in the team. I think they will fly to America and join us."

Colwill started five of England U21s' six games that saw the Young Lions win the tournament without conceding a goal. The final proved to be a scrappy game, with Ashley Cole being sent off shortly after England’s goal. Meanwhile, both Antonio Blanco and England’s Morgan Gibbs-White were also shown red cards in the final seconds of the game.
