The technology entrepreneur Mike Lynch started out studying natural sciences for his degree course at Cambridge University, and I was one of his supervisors for the second-year physics course.
However, for his final year Mike transferred to the engineering department’s electrical sciences course. As I recall, much of the motivation for the move came from his musical background and developing interests in synthesisers and other applications of signal processing.
It was this switch to electrical sciences and his subsequent PhD that laid the foundations for Mike’s eventual achievements.
