Mary Kennedy, the former senior lecturer in women’s studies and social history at Birkbeck, University of London, worked tirelessly in many feminist organisations.
In the 1990s she and I co-chaired the British Women’s Studies Association. Her index cards of feminist teachers, students and activists, all of whom Mary knew personally, was the largest collection in London, and quite possibly in the UK.
Mary was such a generous, supportive feminist academic, and will be greatly missed. I deposited papers of the association in The Women’s Library, Whitechapel, since incorporated into the London School of Economics archive, for future researchers.
