I saw Kingsize Taylor at the Finsbury Park Astoria in London in 1964, and I felt sorry for him and his band, the Dominoes. They were red hot, with a walloping backbeat, but they had the misfortune to be effectively a warm-up group for Carl Perkins and Chuck Berry, the latter making his UK debut.
The atmosphere was electric, but it felt as if Taylor was out of time. That was a shame, because he was a first-class rocker, who kept the joint jumping.
