A handwritten letter from a self-proclaimed 'non-offending paedophile' has been found in a book in College Green's Central Library in Bristol city centre. Bristol City Council removed the book yesterday (18 July) and police have been notified.
Tweets from the Twitter account 'Virtuous Pedophiles' alerted Bristol Live to the letter, which was taken to Bristol Central Library yesterday (17 July). A Twitter thread from the account, which is an organisation of 'non-offending paedophiles', detailed where the handwritten letter could be found at the Library.
Addressed 'to the Finder', it was placed in a book within Bristol's Central Library. Bristol Live this morning (18 July) alerted the Council, who have since removed the letter.

A Bristol City Council spokesperson said: "The letter has been found and removed. We have made the police aware."
In the letter, its author, a self-proclaimed 'non-offending paedophile', explained their reasons for leaving a handwritten note in public. They wrote, "I want to show that people like me are not mythical beings who only exist in theory or just on the internet."
Whilst stating they had "never sexually abused a child nor used illegal material online", they have known "for all [their] adult life" that they had an attraction to children. They explained that non-offending paedophiles "stay silent not out of shame (since we have done nothing harmful) but out of fear of what others like you will think of us."
Avon and Somerset Police have been made aware of the letter. Bristol Central Library is located in College Green, in the centre of Bristol.
